This year’s ADV Data Excellence Conference on 11. and April 12 at the Park Hyatt Vienna was a complete success. Under the motto “Frameworks”, the event offered numerous insights into data governance and management. A group of students from Karlsruhe was among the winners.

With more visitors than ever before, some of whom had traveled to Vienna from Karlsruhe, because, as Sven Klenert from the Smart City Karlsruhe staff unit tells us, “The city of Vienna is always one step ahead.” He established contact between the conference and a group of students from KIT, who ultimately won 2nd place in the Data Excellence Talent Award. The team consisted of 7 students: Linus Bierhoff, Lukas Hohenlöchter, Maximilian Kost, Thomas Balthasar, Tim Baumann, Chaeyeon Oh, Lea Schulze under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alexander Mädche and Prof. Dr. Jan Niehues.

The conference not only offered a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices, but also numerous opportunities for networking. Participants were able to benefit from the experience and insights of leading experts in the industry and make new contacts that can be invaluable for their professional development.

Sven Klenert knows which topics are currently being discussed in the field of data management: “It’s all about the fact that it simply offers added value for society what you can do with data. The aim is to show a little bit of added value in such data, especially when it is available to the public.”

Open source – data management that benefits everyone

Open data that is made available to the general public – that sounds abstract at first. However, they often conceal very practical applications for everyday life:

“There are now some really big projects that are based on open data. There is probably one of the largest organizations in Germany, the Sozialhelden, who have built the Wheelmap, barrier-free. The fact that this data is made publicly available is a great help to a certain section of the population that relies on it. But there are also other smaller applications, for example, Gieß den Kiez, which involves tree sponsorships and the watering of trees, in which the citizens are involved,” says Klener.

These examples show once again how important data management is for the future and how important it is for experts to have a platform like the Data Excellence Conference in Vienna. Data is the backbone of modern decision-making processes and innovations. The ability to manage and use data effectively is becoming increasingly crucial to the success of companies and organizations. This conference not only highlighted current trends and technologies, but also emphasized the importance of responsible and strategic use of data, which is essential for a sustainable and successful future.
