DIGITAL FEMALE LEADER AWARD - Apply now!
With the DIGITAL FEMALE LEADER AWARD (DFLA), Karlsruhe is becoming the capital of female empowerment. The DFLA, the most important award in the female digital scene, will take place this year on September 22 and 23. For the first time, it will take place over two days and is supported by the cooperation between Global Digital Women, Messe Karlsruhe and the City of Karlsruhe.
This means that the most important industry event for all digital topics relating to female leadership is coming to Karlsruhe. Global Digital Women (GDW), women in the digital business world, will be given a stage and the topics of the moment – digitalization and diversity – will move into the spotlight. For the sixth time, GDW will present the Digital Female Leader Award as the most important prize in the female digital scene in the DACH region.
Under this year’s motto “Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You”, GDW Global Digital Women wants to encourage those who are the first in their family: The first to start up or the first to get their own project off the ground. The DFLA is dedicated to the different paths of female leaders and the responsibility that brands, decision-makers and teams take on every day through a wide variety of initiatives. It takes this courage and responsibility to change the world and make a lasting impact on society.
Making diversity visible
“The economy needs to be rethought in these times. This includes women being part of this economy and making it more diverse,” says Tijen Onaran. She and her company Global Digital Women first initiated the DFLA six years ago. The Managing Director of Global Digital Women, Sedef Uhlmann, also sees the award as a forward-looking symbol. “It’s time we made our voices heard! The DFLA is not only important for recognizing the achievements of women in the digital industry. It also sends a message: women have the skills and the potential to play at the top everywhere.”
The spotlight is also set up in September for those who are just taking their first steps onto the industry stage. Sedef Uhlmann wants women to support each other and promote each other’s potential. “We are not only looking for high-flyers, but also rising stars – those who have the potential to be the next generation of digital leaders. And don’t forget: You can even nominate other inspiring women who you think deserve this award.”

Karlsruhe – digital stronghold and home of the DFLA
The summit will kick off on Friday, September 22 with a networking event with invited guests at the Center for Art and Media. On Saturday, September 23, the thought leader forum will start at 11 a.m. with a keynote speech and workshops on the topics of diversity, leadership, innovation and sustainability. In the evening, the award ceremony will take place at Messe Karlsruhe – with inspiring winners, a top-class jury and great partners.
She is all the more delighted that Karlsruhe, the city where she was born, is now hosting the event. No other city stands for digitalization as much as the city of Karlsruhe: Germany’s first e-mail was received here in August 1984. Even though sending and receiving an email is taken for granted today, Tijen Onaran knows how important her work with GDW Global Digital Women is and the impact it has. It is the leading company in the field of digitalization and diversity. Tijen Onaran is certain: “Only together can we achieve great things and drive digitalization, innovation and future topics forward.”
However, the summit in 2023 is only the beginning. GDW Global Digital Women, Messe Karlsruhe and the City of Karlsruhe want to pursue a shared vision in the long term and establish the Female Empowerment Festival in Karlsruhe.
