Karlsruhe fischertechnik Day 2021: The longest unicycle track in the world

On July 3, the 6th fischertechnik Day took place in Karlsruhe, where 99 students competed to build the world’s longest unicycle track. In the end, a new world record was set with over 50 modules and a distance of 64.32 meters.

The promotion of young talent has always been a top priority in Karlsruhe. For this reason, the Karlsruhe Technology Initiative was launched years ago. The CyberForum e. V. project, which is supported by the karlsruhe.digital initiative and others, has set itself the task of promoting enthusiasm for technology among children and young people and imparting basic technical and IT knowledge in a fun way.

Among other things, this is done by equipping the fischertechnik and robotics clubs at Karlsruhe schools with technology kits and microcontrollers. The technika volunteers also organize workshops and vacation activities in the field of technology.

And then, of course, there are competitions and events such as the Karlsruhe School Robotics Cup and the Karlsruhe fischertechnik Day.

Karlsruhe fischertechnik Day 2021

This year, the 6th fischertechnik Day in Karlsruhe was dedicated to the topic of the unicycle track. To be more precise, the longest fischertechnik unicycle track in the world was to be built on July 3 in the gymnasium of the Karlsruhe Garden School.

Just four weeks after schools reopened, 99 children from 9 schools and institutions registered to take part – and not just from Karlsruhe. The module from Assel Primary School in Drochtersen had the longest journey of almost 700 kilometers, arriving in Karlsruhe on time for the world record attempt after an eight-hour train journey. Unlike in previous years, when 400 to 500 people attended fischertechnik Day, this year’s event was broadcast online in compliance with coronavirus regulations. This gave the students the opportunity to comment on their modules live.
