ZKM: Computer capacities for coronavirus research

The ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe is running its computers for the “Folding@home” project. The ZKM is thus making computer capacity available for research into the coronavirus.

Unused computers will be used for medical research while the media museum is closed to the public. The ZKM is providing up to 20 new computers with good graphics cards for the networked project, as these enable parallel computing units and higher performance.

Schlosslichtspiele: virtual with a double world premiere

The Schlosslichtspiele will take place again this year – but in a completely different format than in the previous five years. The opening show on August 5 will be a double world premiere: on the one hand, guests can look forward to a new show by internationally renowned video artists. At the same time, they will witness the world’s first virtual projection mapping, which can be controlled at home by adopting various observer positions.

The virtual Schlosslichtspiele can be seen online free of charge and worldwide from August 5 to September 13. As soon as larger gatherings are safely possible again under certain conditions and with the implementation of appropriate measures, the Schlosslichtspiele Karlsruhe will return from the virtual to the physical world and can be experienced again in public spaces.
