Colourful night of digitalization: TelemaxX provides insights into the cloud

On 1 July 2022, TelemaxX will open its doors for the Colourful Night of Digitalization – and provide a glimpse behind the scenes of the largest TelemaxX data center in Karlsruhe.

Long before cloud computing was on everyone’s lips, TelemaxX Telekommunikation was founded in February 1999 by regional municipal utilities and energy suppliers. For the first time, the scattered data networks in the Karlsruhe technology region were brought together under one roof and marketed to business customers. The IPC 1 data center was established in the west of Karlsruhe as the central location for network expansion.

Ten years later, TelemaxX opened IPC 3, a data center with an area of 2,000 square meters that can accommodate 15,000 servers. This is intended to offer medium-sized companies in particular the opportunity to access computing power and operational security that they would not be able to provide in-house – or only with a great deal of effort. TelemaxX now has a total of five state-of-the-art data centers in and around Karlsruhe. A sixth is currently being planned.

TelemaxX recognized the signs of the times early on – and today its data centers stand for maximum performance, security and availability. Whether finance, logistics, healthcare, automotive or education – the Karlsruhe-based company offers tailor-made solutions for almost all industries with its IT services. TelemaxX customers currently include companies such as GRENKE, Pneuhage and the Karlsruhe District Office.

Colourful night of digitalization: tour of the data center

We’ve all heard terms like cloud computing and big data before. But few of us know what it looks like in the place that makes the digitalization of all areas of our lives possible in the first place: a data center.

For this reason, TelemaxX is opening the doors of its IPC 4 data center in Hagsfeld for the Colourful Night of Digitalization. With an area of 3,000 square meters, this is also Telemaxx’s largest data center and includes four fire compartments, double fencing, video surveillance, access control, a fire alarm system and much more. From the outside, the IPC 4 even resembles an oversized bunker or the high-security wing of a prison. Inside, visitors can expect flashing servers, signaling systems and an almost infinite number of colourful cable harnesses.

But why is all this necessary at all? How is the room temperature reliably kept at a constant level? And what actually happens if the power fails? This is exactly what will be discussed on 1 July from 3 p.m. at the TelemaxX data center IPC 4 (Ohmstraße 1, 76229 Karlsruhe) at the Colourful Night of Digitalization.

Every hour on the hour, the TelemaxX team offers two computer center tours for 10 people each. Visitors should allow around 45 minutes for each tour. There is also a supporting program consisting of information islands, hands-on stations and exciting presentations. Of course, refreshments will also be provided.

You can find the complete TelemaxX program here.

Note: Registration is required for the guided tours and lectures. A valid photo ID is required for access to the computer center. The minimum age for participation in a guided tour is 14 years.
