Gamification congress - bizplay goes hybrid on stage
Hybrid event formats are booming during the coronavirus crisis. On October 15, 2020, bizplay will also take place as a mix of lectures in the Tollhaus and via livestream.
The cross-media orientation of the Gamification Congress should not cause the organizers too many problems. After all, bizplay already describes the constructive interplay between business and play. And this year’s motto“bizplay meets creatables” brings another artificial word to light. Creatables is made up of creative and substainable, which stands for creative and sustainable.
The convergence of the two events is under the motto of cross-innovation and shows in a very practical way why sustainability pays off. Digital pioneers from start-ups, the games industry, creative industries and universities will meet SMEs and together they will create future-oriented innovation in exciting panels, talks and interactive workshops using the creatables method. The event is a hybrid event.

Gaming scene meets SMEs
The hybrid structure is not the only premiere at the 9th bizplay. Something new will also be introduced with the presentation of the Creatables movement. “We want to bring gamers and SMEs together. And ideally, all sides can benefit from this collaboration in the end,” says Bernd Hertl. The Head of Communications at MFG Baden-Württemberg, which is bringing the congress to life this year together with bizplay organizers Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH, Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Karlsruhe (K3) and gerenwa GmbH, is one of the driving forces behind Creatables. The concept was conceived by gerenwa Managing Director Professor Steffen P. Walz. Now MFG I Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg is to drive the movement forward and sensitize representatives from several different sectors of the economy to the meaning and purpose of Creatables. The MFG Kreativ division focuses on networking entrepreneurs from the creative industry and the business world.

SMEs can learn from gamers
“In the gaming industry, there are plenty of ways and means to get people excited about a product,” says Hertl. In addition, a good computer game must captivate its users right from the start, be intuitive to use if possible and, ideally, also be entertaining. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could definitely benefit from these approaches. Although the interplay between the gaming scene and the economy is not completely new, Hertl emphasizes that the creatables scene is also taking on social responsibility with its commitment to sustainable action. “Innovative approaches are needed in the fight against climate change,” says Hertl. And who, if not gamers and SMEs, could implement and promote good ideas quickly?
Vaude is a pioneer in creatables
“So far, a lot has taken place on a lofty meta-level. But there are already some practical approaches,” emphasizes Hertl. A prime example of a successful Creatables project was provided by the company Vaude. The outdoor outfitter put smart repair instructions for its own products online. For Hertl, the advantages of this strategy are obvious: the instructions ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, and Vaude was also able to further improve its image as an environmentally conscious company.
