Rethinking sustainability: With the AI ChallengeKarlsruhe<\/a>, the AI Alliance Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg brings together expertise and perspectives from different areas to develop sustainable event concepts using artificial intelligence (AI). Practical knowledge, scientific approaches and the experience of users and manufacturers of AI systems are combined to work together on specific challenges in the event sector. Applications are possible until February 28, 2025.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

On On May 6 and 7, 2025, municipalities, companies, start-ups, data providers and AI experts will come together in Karlsruhe to develop sustainable event solutions. The focus will be on mobility, energy, procurement and digital platforms for smart eco-events. The aim is to develop practical AI-supported solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of events and contribute to sustainable urban development. <\/p>\n\n

Impulses from science and practice<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Using the proven methodology of AI engineering and best-practice examples, sustainable solutions are to be developed through interdisciplinary exchange. “The AI Challenge is a great opportunity to show that a specific problem that affects many people can be solved quickly and pragmatically using AI. I therefore expect to be able to hold our events more sustainably in the near future thanks to AI from Karlsruhe,” says Sandra Rohner, Managing Director of the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg AI Alliance. <\/p>\n\n

Thomas Usl\u00e4nder from Fraunhofer IOSB also emphasizes: “AI projects should be set up in such a way that they meet specific technical requirements and lead to economic and sustainable benefits for companies or authorities. This is the real challenge, which is often masked by the incredible dynamism of AI technology. With the AI Challenge, we are therefore bringing users and AI solution providers together from the outset in accordance with the Karlsruhe methodology of AI engineering. In an agile process, the Karlsruhe region has decided on the topic of smart eco-events: how can events become more sustainable and what contribution can AI make to this?”<\/p>\n\n

TOLLHAUS, a renowned event location from Karlsruhe, is already taking part. “Climate change presents us all with huge challenges. As a socio-cultural center with over 140,000 visitors per year, it has always been important to us to keep our ecological footprint as low as possible and to measure and further reduce it year after year. This requires increasingly high efforts and of course there is the hope of contributing to decarbonization more quickly through technical innovations. We see ourselves as practitioners and hope to be able to provide impetus from our day-to-day work at the event,” explains Daniel Geiger. <\/p>\n\n

After the public kick-off on May 6 with best practices and networking, proven experts will have the opportunity to attend the workshop day on May 7 and actively work on real challenges.
